Julie Runyon, Register of Deeds

Julie Chadwick Runyon is a native of Cunningham, Tennessee.  After graduating from Montgomery Central High School, she attended the University of Tennessee, Martin, where she graduated with the highest honors.  She then graduated with honors from the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law at the University of Memphis.  In law school, Julie was awarded the Dean’s Award for Academic Excellence in Nonprofit Organization, Problems in Bankruptcy, Decedents’ Estates, and Constitutional Law.  She was also on the Moot Court Board and a Member of the Law Review. 

Upon graduation from law school, she returned to Clarksville to practice law, focusing on real estate law.  She has been a continuing legal education presenter on real estate, as well as a frequent speaker for the Clarksville Board of Realtors.  From residential transactions to multi-million-dollar commercial investment projects, she is experienced in all phases of the local real estate market.  She is a member of the Montgomery County Bar Association as well as the Tennessee Bar Association. 

Julie was elected as Montgomery County Register of Deeds in September 2022.  As Register of Deeds, Julie is the gatekeeper of real property for Montgomery County, Tennessee.  Her past legal experience provides tremendous insight into the proper functioning of the office for the documents being processed.  From the importance of indexing to making sure that only proper documents are allowed to be recorded, her experience as a lawyer is an asset to the citizens of Montgomery County.

Julie is a Member of the Tennessee Register Association, Middle Tennessee Register Association, County Officials Association of Tennessee, and Property Records Industry Association (PRIA).  She is currently participating in Leadership Clarksville.  She obtained her Tennessee County Elected Officials Certificate and is currently working on obtaining her County Officials Certificate Training Program (COCTP) as well as her Certificate County Finance Officers Program Certificate (CCFO).  Both these programs are voluntary programs for county elected officials that provide education about the fiscal affairs of local government, as well as other topics. 

In addition to being a Register of Deeds, Julie is married to Ray Runyon, a local attorney, with whom she has two children, Connor and Cailynn.  She is actively involved in her church, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and her children’s school, Immaculate Conception School and Pope Prep.
